Gift

Last Book Week, Teacher Des,
a Prep teacher in the EED received a special gift from her student. She
shares this special moment when everyone in her class learned and benefited
from the gift that was intended for her.
Today, I was happy to have received a fantastic gift from one of my students
– Scott Lee Chua. Scott is one of my sweet, smart and talented students.
He enjoys sharing his ideas, jokes and experiences in class. He is a supportive
friend and an excellent leader.
This morning, he went up to me and told me he had a wonderful surprise
for me. His classmates were very excited too. He asked me to close my
eyes. Together with his friends, he counted up to three and when I opened
my eyes, there it was – Scott’s first book which he had written and illustrated.
The book is entitled “The Wings of War”. It was impressive. The book has
a title page, copyright, dedication page and biography. It consists of
9 chapters about the adventures of the Justice League Super Heroes. The
story is very amusing. This did not surprise me though, since Scott is
witty and comical. The illustrations were also engaging given that Scott
has a knack for drawing.
His gift arrived at a very opportune time because this week is “Book Week”.
I asked Scott to present his book to his classmates. It turned out to
be his book launching. His classmates loved it. They were amused and in
awe at his work. By the time he was done reading aloud the story and showing
the illustrations he personally made, his classmates congratulated him
for a job well done. Some gave him a pat at the back, a handshake and,
an autograph from one of his classmates.
Scott was delighted for having shared his work. However, he was also overwhelmed
at the response of his classmates to his work. His book was the “pick
of the week” in our book corner. His classmates can’t help but to read
over and over the book he made. Indeed, he has inspired his classmates
to read more and eventually, if not in the immediate future, write their
own stories.
Thank you for your gift, Scott. You make me proud!
