Lester Erese (H4D)

Posted Thursday, 25-Nov-2004 11:56 AM

In the just concluded PAYA (Philippine Athletics Youth Association) 2004 Chess Tournament hosted by Claret School of Quezon City last October 9 - November 13, the Xavier chess team, composed of Matthew Ang (H4H), Lester Erese (H4D), Benedict Lee (H4F), Jeffrey Go (H1C), William Lim (H1G) and Joseph Dee (H2E) fought well against very seasoned and experienced teams from Ateneo de Manila, La Salle Greenhills, Southridge School, Lourdes School of Quezon City, Colegio San Agustin and Claret School of Quezon City.

The Xavier Chess Team was formed last July and is currently handled by Mr. John Sy (High 4 Math Teacher) and trained by Mr. Bobby Bautista.

The neophytes from Xavier blanked Claret School 4 - 0 and defeated La Salle and San Agustin 3 - 1. Meanwhile, Lourdes , played well and held the game at 2 - 2. However, both Ateneo and Southridge upset us with an identical score of 2.5-1.5.

Despite all odds, the team bagged the 1 st runner-up trophy and Jeffrey Go was awarded a gold medal for topping board 5. Moreover, Matthew Ang and Lester Erese placed third in board 2 and board 3 respectively.

Southridge School finished first and La Salle Greenhills garnered third place.
