ATHLETICS
The hard work that the Xavier Bowling Team has been putting on for the past several months has paid off with their various achievements, but none have been more meaningful than this. Recently, bowling team members J. Em Ang and Casey Yu made it into the National Youth Pool and the National Youth Development Pool, respectively.
Over a five-week tryout period which featured difficult oiling patterns used in the World and Asian Bowling Championships, the pair impressed the national team coaches, who were on hand to observe the participants’ performances. J. Em Ang was able to adjust to the oiling patterns the best as he topped the elimination field of 19 bowlers. Thus, by the end of the elimination round, he scored 95 pins more than the next tryout participant, Brian Chong, who is incidentally a former Xavier Bowling Team Captain. Meanwhile, Casey Yu rounded out the top five of the eliminations and more importantly, impressed the coaches with his stable bowling form.
Both bowlers have begun training with the national team at the PSC Rizal Memorial Sports Complex. They will now join other Xavier Bowling Team alumni Brian Chong and Markwin Tee as they train for the Asian Youth Championships to be held in Guam next year. Truly, this achievement has been a big morale boost for our bowling team, which will play in upcoming tournaments in the next few weeks. |
