Staying in touch

In this day and age, immediate access to information is more often
than not a key success factor. For the foreign exchange trader,
knowing the latest bid and offer will help him price his foreign exchange
properly and look out for opportunities to make money. The same
is true for the stock broker who wants to know at what price to buy or
sell his stock of choice. Furthermore, if you know that the price
of gasoline will double tomorrow, why not use the information to your
advantage and fill your tanks today?
I believe we can say the same about
us parents having immediate access to information about our children.
We are not dealing with profit or loss here, but a much more important
social and personal issue. Given today's environment, parents tend
to worry more about their kids. Gone are the days when kids are allowed
to freely leave the school premises or roam the malls. These days,
we are more careful because of the many potential dangers that lurk in
the environment.
This is one of the major reasons why Xavier School launched XS Mobile , the easy and convenient way to stay informed. We invite parents to subscribe to XS Mobile and benefit from instantaneous alerts and announcements from the school direct to your cell phones. No more wondering whether or not classes have been called off during a rainy day. No more haphazard texting or calling to check if our children will be dismissed early. And no more guessing if the message we receive is authentic or a hoax!
What's more, it's easy to subscribe.
If you are a parent of a Xavier High School student, simply send the message
X1 to the number 29766. For Grade School (Nursery,
Prep, Grades 1-7) parents, send the message X2 to the
number 29766. Once you are enrolled, you will be informed of days
when there will be no classes or early dismissal. You will likewise
be reminded of upcoming Parents-Teachers Conferences, Parents' Orientation
as well as other special announcements from Xavier School.
Of course, this service is NOT free.
As a subscriber, each alert you receive will cost you P2.50. But,
I believe, this is a small price to pay for the convenience of staying
informed especially because it has to do with our beloved sons!
Moreover, we are assured that Xavier School will only send announcements
of value (and NOT sales pitches)!
And there's more. For those
who would like to personalize their cell phones, there are Xavier-related
downloads such as logos, picture messages, colored wallpapers and polytone/ringtones.

Incidentally, for parents who have
the time, may I also invite you to browse through the Xavier
School website (www.xs.edu.ph). As our partners in bringing up our
students, parents will benefit a great deal from knowing what's going
on in school ( Highlights and Communities ),
our thrusts and objectives ( Academics and About
Xavier ). The website is particularly helpful for parents to
validate as well as reinforce the values taught in school.
Visit the Prayer Room
and submit an intention for the community to pray for or, better
yet, be one with the community in praying for the intentions of others.
Director's Take is the column of Fr. Johnny Go, S.J.
while the section Soul Search would contain recent homilies
and/or reflections. By the way, if you are a Xavier alumnus, you
may also want to take a peek at the Alumni section (n.b.
this is where you will find this column, From the Stallion's
Eye ).
So, what are you waiting for?
Subscribe to XS Mobile and visit the Xavier School Website
regularly. That way, you will always stay in touch!
We value your comments and suggestions about XS Mobile . You can email them to ftiu@xs.edu.ph. Thank you very much.
