MAGIS

A-Day, My Day!
Christine Corales, Prep Teacher

As a new teacher, I did not know what to expect of the Appreciation Day. It started out as a regular assembly in the EED but when the boys started performing one by one, everyone got so excited. Even the Prep and Nursery boys could not contain themselves. They were cheering, singing with and clapping to the beat of the music. The teachers had the biggest smiles on their faces.

I, for one, could not clearly explain how I felt. It was a warm feeling of pride for the boys. I knew that a part of these boys’ character and talent were lovingly developed by teachers, who were sitting there and to whom these presentations were offered too. I felt like a proud mother.

The grade school celebration was also a treat. We were paraded like guests of honor and the boys cheered us on. I could feel myself blushing. Perhaps it was the feeling of joy that made the tips of my ears pink.

The presentations were entertaining. I could hear the veteran teachers proudly naming the boys that they called their babies once. I shared their joy. I can’t help but think; “my first batch of boys will one day perform for us. I will be just as happy and excited as these teachers around me are today.”

The afternoon celebration for the teachers was something else! The search for the Xavier Idol was so fun! It was the perfect venue for teachers to just be themselves. The showcase of great talent and support for one another was clearly seen. I also must say that the technical support group did a wonderful job! It looked so professional! Hats off also to the participants! The contestants were very good. They have all risen up to the challenge. There was a good balance among the judges and the host was very good.

There are moments that I ask myself why I took this path of educating young minds. I used to wonder why the hand of God brought me here to Xavier School . After the Appreciation Day, I know exactly why I am here. I am happy to be here.
