ALUMNI XS Alumni Meet in Vancouver Vancouver, Canada -- April 4, 2005. A group of Xavier School alumni led by EDWARD CHUA (`66) gathered at the Canadian Martyrs’ Parish in Richmond, Vancouver. There were approximately 30 alumni from the 60’s all the way to the 2000’s. A number of them brought along their wives and children.
The event began at 10 am with a Thanksgiving Mass presided by Fr. JOHNNY GO, S.J. ('79), our School Director, for the intentions of the alumni and their families. During the Mass, Fr. Go observed that the choice of the venue was significant because the church, though not a Jesuit parish, was named in honor of several Jesuit martyrs. After the Mass, the group moved to the Conference Room for lunch. where everyone got a chance to meet and exchange stories. After lunch, Fr. Go presented a report on Xavier School, its present situation and future plans, including Xavier 2, scheduled to open in 2010. After Fr. Go’s report, HERO YU (`72), Chairman for the Golden Jubilee Committee and AAXS VP for Special Projects, shared some of our plans for the upcoming 50th Anniversary of the school in 2006. On behalf of Xavier School, he invited the alumni to participate and be included in the important celebration. During the Open Forum, ANDY TONG (`68) expressed the alumni’s commitment to try their best to participate in the Golden Jubilee Celebration in 2006 in a way that is suitable and meaningful for them. During the meeting, Fr. Go and Hero Yu handed the AAXS Vancouver Chapter banner to our alumni leaders in Vancouver--a gesture of thanksgiving as well as encouragement to them to continue their work of organizing the Xaverians in Vancouver.
Everyone agreed that the meeting was a success, but it would not have been possible without the help of the following: EDWARD CHUA (`66), ANDY TONG (`68), ERIC CHAM (`68), VINCENT UY (`78), STEVE CHUNG (`80), HECTOR CHUA (`82), and many others like CONRAD SIY (`72), who lent his state-of-the art equipment, and PETER CHAN (`72), who helped in various other ways. The meeting ended with the raffling off of Xavier School souvenir items. The grand prize was a two-way ticket to Manila to enable the winner to join the activities in Xavier School in December 2006 as a representative of the North American alumni. Five names were drawn from those who attended the meeting in Vancouver. Five names will be drawn in every city, but the winner will be known only in San Francisco. |
