Commemorating the death of the Jesuit Martyrs of the Mission and celebrating the upcoming Chinese New Year, the Xavier community held a mass at the High School Gymnasium last February 4, 2005 at ten in the morning.

The bilingual mass that used both the English and Chinese languages was celebrated by the school chaplain, Fr. Danilo Gozar, S.J., and concelebrated by one of the Chinese Computer teachers of the High School Unit, Fr. Joseph Lu.

During the homily of the Eucharistic celebration, Fr. Gozar reminded the community of what true discipleship entails and he called on the students, faculty and staff to follow Christ’s footsteps.

Following the mass was a short Chinese New Year program that was prepared by the High School Chinese Department. It aimed to show Xaverians the Chinese culture and heritage that all Chinese – Filipinos should be proud of for it shows the uniqueness, individuality and character of Tsinoy.

The event started out with a great and impressive dragon dance by the Dance X and was followed by a remarkable song number by Ms. Heidi Liu of the Chinese Department who sang the Chinese song entitled The Expression in Your Eyes.

To spice things up a little, the Philippine Tai Chi Association performed the now popular worldwide ancient martial art of Tai Chi as they demonstrated two routines called the 42 Forms of Tai Chi and the Tai Chi with Fans.

Even getting things more pumped up was the performance of Xavier alumnus, Dexter Chung and Kung Fu Master Guo Feng Jun as they displayed notable and outstanding Kung Fu moves that really enthralled the students to the edge of their seats.

The program ended with a bang as all the Chinese teachers sang two songs to welcome the Chinese New Year – the Year of the Wooden Rooster while they all wished everyone a prosperous new year ahead.
