SYMBIOSIS 2005: A Race to Deliver

December
15, 2004 marked the end of the “Symbiosis Cup 2005 A Race to Deliver”,
the Grade 7 Yearbook Fund Drive. After four months of active solicitation,
the boys, assisted by their parents and guardians, have managed to generate
enough funds to finance their yearbook; to prepare graduation souvenirs
for each graduating class; and to donate to the Fr. Mena Foundation and
the Xavier School Educational Trust Fund Inc. (XSETF). The Fr. Mena Foundation
was set up to help fund the schooling of the indigent Aetas in Kikoville,
Porac, Pampanga. The XSETF on the other hand, funds the scholarship program
of Xavier School. It helps fulfill the vision of the founder of Xavier
School, Fr. Jean Desautels, that no deserving boy will be denied the benefit
of a Xavier education for lack of financial resources.
On Monday, January 17 2005, in a simple ceremony held during the general
assembly, Grades 7A, 7D and 7G were awarded with banners and cash tokens
for being Best in Participation. These classes had the most number of
boys who solicited during the drive. A total of 31 boys solicited in each
of these classes. Grade 7C was the “top grosser” bringing in the highest
peso value to fund the drive. In addition to a banner, trophy and a cash
token, they will also be treated to a simple get-together in appreciation
of their efforts. Commissions given to the boys for their solicitation
efforts have either been given back to the Fr. Mena Foundation or have
been donated to the class fund for use in the upcoming fair.
Really, this race had been successful in many ways. More than just a contest
to generate the funds necessary to finance the yearbook, SYMBIOSIS 2005,
it has also delivered assistance to those who need it most in the spirit
of magis. Best of all, this race has carried the hearts and minds of our
Grade 7 boys a step closer to fulfilling Xavier’s dream of making them
truly “men for others.
To the young gentlemen of Grade School Batch 2005, Congratulations! Luceat
lux!
