Last Jan. 27, the Prep Department had its own version of the world Olympics: the Prep Mini-Olympics! This exciting event took place in the football field from 7:30 – 9:30 am . It started with the parade of the students from their classrooms to their respective tents in the field as the emcees, Teacher Desiree and Teacher Gail, call the name of each group. The Prep students were delighted upon seeing the whole place! But, as responsible boys, they sat patiently under their tents and waited for their time to play.

To signal the start of the games, Prep PE teacher, Teacher Rosanne together with Hiro Kobayashi of Prep 6 and Alfonso Sison of Prep D lit the Mini-Olympic torch. Like true athletes, the Prep players also had an oath of sportsmanship, wherein they promised to play fair and to accept defeat. After this, each team presented a dance number. This became each section’s trademark dance all throughout the event.

At last, it’s play time! The first game was Straw in a Bottle which was followed by Together in a Garter. The last game is everyone’s favorite, the Obstacle Course. The players did their best amidst the heat of the sun. Their teammates cheered for them under their tents. The players showed that they were good sports through fair play and accepting that they would not win in all the games. Prep C/3 and Prep D/4 emerged as the winners for the 1 st game. For the second game, Prep E/5 and Prep A/1 won, while Prep A/1 and Prep F/6 won in the third game. The winners got a “Winner” medal necklace with a gold chocolate coin on it, while those who did not win got a “Sportsmanship” ribbon medal with a gold chocolate coin on it. After the games, the Prep students went back to their classrooms to have their snacks.

Everybody enjoyed the Mini-Olympics! It was surely a success! Not only did the students have fun, but they also learned a lot of things about life. It is fulfilling to see how our Prep boys are capable of playing fair and how graciously they can accept defeat. Nobody cried or had tantrums after losing. Nobody fought during the whole event. They took turns and patiently waited for their turn. It is also heartwarming to know that the value of simplicity, the value that we try very hard to inculcate in their hearts, is evident in their lives. The students greatly appreciated the simple awards they got. A lot of “thank you’s” were heard from them even if the medals were just made of hard paper.

The Prep students had the chance to get to know their batch mates since their partner sections shared one room together. The students did not hesitate to share their tables and chairs with each other. It is wonderful to see the Prep boys share their food with and play with each other.

We, the Prep teachers, are very proud and happy to see these kind of behavior from our beloved students. Way to go, Xaverians!
