Senior Gawad Uliran Awardees Named

Four graduating seniors will be honored with Annual Gawad Uliran awards for their achievements in various non-academic fields during the March 18 graduation ceremonies.
The Annual Gawad Uliran Award is bestowed upon student individuals or groups who have had outstanding non-academic achievements during the school year.
The following are this school year's senior awardees:
MEDALISTS FOR OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT
JAVIER GOMEZ (H4D) – Competence in Track and Field
Javier was an exceptional track and field revelation this school year. He won various medals in such meets as the PATAFA Colgate Weekly Relays, the PASA-PRISA Qualifying Meet, the Chinese Meet, the Brent Invitational Meet and the NCR Qualifying Meet. His events are also as varied as the competitions he joined; he vied in the pole vault, discus, hurdle, dash, javelin, and long jump events. All in all, just this school year, Javier amassed a dozen gold medals -- no mean feat considering that he manages his training privately.
MICHAEL CU (H4B) – Competence in Music
This school, year, Michael has had several noteworthy accomplishments in his piano playing. In the National Picazzo Piano Competition, held every five years, Michael placed 8th among all competitors. Furthermore, he represented the National Capital Region in the National Music Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA), Piano Category B (15-19 years old) at the 2004 National Music Festival where he was able to qualify as one of among the top ten in the national level. There's also his second place finish in the Annual Piano Concerto Competition held in Miriam College last February. Xavier School was fortunate to be able to catch a glimpse of his talent during his unforgettable birthday solo piano recital held right on campus where Michael played a full repertoire of six pieces, one full sonata and a full concerto.
CARLO OLIVARES (H4E) – Competence in Baseball
Carlo is not only the captain of the Xavier Baseball Varsity, but also a member of Team ILLAM, which won both the 2003 and 2004 Philippine Baseball Series. Because of the championships, Carlo's team earned the right to represent the nation in both the 2003 and 2004 Asia-Pacific Little League Regionals held in Rota in 2003 and in Guam last 2004. In 2002, Team Philippines actually won the Regionals which allowed Carlo to be part of the team which represented the Philippines and the Asia-Pacific region in the 2002 World Series. Also in 2002, Carlo was selected as part of the team to represent Manila in the Southeast Asia Youth Baseball and Softball Tournament (SEAYBST) held in Perth , Australia . Carlo will be leaving for Singapore on March 27 to once again represent Manila in the 2005 SEAYBST.
RECIPIENT OF THE CERTIFICATE FOR OUTSTANDING SCHOOL REPRESENTATIVES
CASEY YU (H4B) – Competence in Bowling
Casey is a devoted member of the Xavier Bowling Varsity and winner of various bowling prizes. He placed third in both the Open and the Masters Divisions of the SM Interschool Championship. Furthermore, as captain, he led his team to the coveted title at the 2 nd Philippine School Bowling Championship.
The music was recorded during the Black and White concert of Michael Cu, Gawad Uliran Medalist for Competence in Music.
