ATHLETICS Bowlers Set the Tone Early Sharwin Tee, Bowling Coach Posted Thursday, 12-May-2005 6:04 PM
Barely getting a break
from school work, the Xavier Bowling Team plunged
back into action last March 20, 2005 in the PBC Youth Quarterly Tournament
2005 for the 1 st quarter at the Pearl Bowling Center in
Being part of the national youth pool, J. Em, has been elevated into the collegiate division where he would battle the rest of the national youth pool and the best bowlers aged between 19 and 23. Despite this, he bowled a blistering series of 1332 in 6 games (or an average of 222 per game), which included high games of 265 and 255, to come out on top. With his dominating victory, J. Em once again assured himself of a slot in the National Youth Annual Tournament this December.
Meanwhile, in the majors division, two bowlers bowled their way into the top 10, but could not place in the top three. Edmund Lee had another heartbreaking performance as former Xavier bowling team captain Brian Chong edged him by a single pin. Edmund despite missing the third place finished off with an average of 202.
Incidentally, Edrell Dy, who is leaving the team at the start of the school year to concentrate on his studies, also made a good account of himself by placing 6th in the same division.
Other bowlers to play for Xavier School included Casey Yu who played his last tournament for the Xavier team and Carl Matthew Lim, who plans to join the team this school year.
All in all, this solid performance by the bowling team has set the tone early. Though the team will be composed of more than 6 new bowlers when the school year begins, they are confident that they will be able to continue the winning tradition that the bowling teams of previous years have established.
