What is the job of a head librarian? This person’s function is to be in charge of the whole Grade School Learning Resource Center (LRC), which includes written materials like books, periodicals, magazines; audio-visual library that houses the movies and learning resource tapes for students and teachers; and the Information Technology Laboratory that houses the computers, data banks and files. This person is also in charge of the other librarians and sees to it that they work together to enable the students to learn more. Likewise, this person coordinates with the other librarians and teachers to influence the students to read more and be interested in using the resources and facilities of the LRC. Congratulations to our new head librarian, Mrs. Zarah Grace Gagatiga! It was due to her good performance as a librarian of Grade 7 last year that made her a natural choice to be the next LRC Coordinator. She is both happy and sad about this new job. She is happy because of the new challenges, new responsibilities and expectations that she will face and is now facing. She is also sad because she will not be able to meet with her friends as often as she would want. As the head of the library, she wants to see more students make full use of the resources and facilities of the LRC by borrowing and reading more books, viewing the various tapes, VCD’s and movies, and using the computers. She would also like to see the teachers encourage the students to use the LRC more often. She also expects support for her department from the school to enable her to finish or complete her programs. Mrs. Gagatiga wants the whole grade school student body to know that the LRC is fully staffed and equipped to serve their needs and it should be seen as an extension of the classroom. “Read to live,” according to her, is what she wants the students to remember.
