HIGHLIGHTS

H2 Confirmation:  Igniting the Spirit
Ms. Aimee A. Apolinario, HS Web Editor

Posted Friday, 11-Aug-2006 9:59 AM

The Xavier Golden Jubilee theme, “Ignite Xavier,” was indeed timely for the 236 H2 students who chose to ignite the Spirit in them as they received the Sacrament of Confirmation at the Multi-Purpose Center last July 29, 2006.

Bishop Bernardino Cortez, D.D., Auxiliary Bishop of Manila presided over the Confirmation rites for sections H2ABCD that morning.

Meanwhile, the H2EFGH students were confirmed by Bishop Teodoro Bacani, D.D., Bishop Emeritus of Novaliches.

Mrs. Elsa Santos, CLE Department Chairperson, was particularly happy with the involvement of parents in the preparation for the occasion.

Parent representative, Mrs. Anna Melinda de Ocampo, for instance, led a couple of H2 parents to help set up the venue on the eve of the Confirmation.

In the afternoon of confirmation day, H2EFGH parent representatives also came in early to help set up the venue for the 2nd batch of Confirmands.

Prior to the celebration, the parents attended a one-day recollection to prepare them for the Confirmation of their sons. That same day, July 1, they were also given an orientation.

Fr. Guy Guibelondo, SJ, Campus Minister presented the H2ABCD confirmands, while Fr. Art Borja, SJ, School Chaplain presented the ones from H2EFGH. Bro. Terence Ang, SJ, bestowed each confirmand with the Confirmation Cross. The High School Glee Club, accompanied on the piano by Mr. Francisco Reyes of the HS Social Science Department, sang in both masses.

Confirmation Messages from the HSPO

Dear Confirmands,

Greetings of peace!  In the Spiritual Exercises, St. Ignatius of Loyola suggests that the retreatant end each of the meditation with a colloquy or conversation with Jesus.  He is invited to reflect upon himself these questions.

What have I done for Christ?

What am I doing for Christ?

What can I still do for Christ?

As you prepare yourselves to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, I invite you to reflect on the questions above, and to take time to talk to Jesus.  I would like to assure you also that I am praying for you, joyfully and generously, that you may have a deeper awareness of the presence and power of the Spirit of Jesus in all the events of your life.

     Luceat lux and God bless!

     Sincerely,

     Mr. Michael P. delos Reyes

H2 Confirmands,

Let me congratulate each and one of you who belong to our Jubilee batch of Confirmands.  It is indeed a joy to receive the Holy Spirit on this very special year.

May the Spirit that you receive in the Sacrament of Confirmation ignite in you a deep sense of our faith, a burning passion for justice, and a fervent desire to serve others.

     Yours in the Spirit,

     Ms. Aimee Apolinario

     (Assistant Principal for Academics)

Congratulations, Confirmands!

As you receive the Sacrament of Confirmation this Saturday, you will have made an important decision for yourselves – that of personally accepting the faith of the Catholic Church as your own.  A milestone in your spiritual journey, your Confirmation will speak of your growing maturity as Christians and your desire to live the life of good and God.

As you know, pledging faith to God is more a lifetime effort than a one-time action, so I pray that this Sacrament of Combat continuously drives you to protect and preserve the treasure that is our faith against the daily challenges of our human weakness.  Let your life as soldiers of Christ be a constant proof of battles won against mediocrity, injustice and apathy.

And may you all find inspiration in the great soldier of Christ, St. Ignatius of Loyola, who devoted his life for God’s greater glory.

     Luceat lux!

     Sincerely,

     Mrs. Jane C. Cacacho

     HS Principal
