HIGHLIGHTS Working for a Cause Luis Mercado (H4B), Stallion News Writer Posted Thursday, 14-Dec-2006 9:30 AM
Loaded with tons of sun block and a bunch of caps, visors and sunglasses, a group of Xaverians along with a couple of faculty and staff yet again embarked on a journey towards Tondo, Manila last November 18, 2006 to help build the Gawad Kalinga: Baseco.
Despite the difficulty faced by the volunteers, a strong sense of determination enabled them to work approximately two hours under the heat rays of the dreaded sun.
The volunteers were divided into three big groups and were all assigned three separate tasks, such as passing around heavy blocks of cement across the community, distributing soil to level the land and fixing a septic tank.
The sun never appeared to be on their side, but this did not hinder the volunteers to accomplish their mission for the day. In fact, despite the sunburn, everyone left with smiles on their faces as it proved to be yet another fun and worthwhile experience for all.
