High School Classes Chip in Ideas for Xtreme Classroom Makeover
Mr. Adrian Asis, Likas Gilas Sub-Committee Head

The high school recently concluded Xtreme Makeover: The Golden Renaissance of the Xavier High School Classroom, an interclass contest which involved the various sections coming up with proposals on how classrooms in Xavier School could be improved.

Each entry had to include justifications for improvements proposed. Furthermore, students had to do research on the benefits of these changes, as well as the financial cost of actually carrying them out.

The contest was conceptualized because the administration wanted to solicit the students’ input on improvements that could be made on Xavier School’s basic facility: its classrooms. Students’ suggestions ranged from installing multimedia projectors in each classroom to placing Chinese section markers alongside the existing English ones.

Charlie Ledesma, who contributed his ideas to 3B’s winning proposal entitled The Ultimate Learning Environment, shared his thoughts about brainstorming on the project. “It’s nice to know that the school actually values our opinions. I think we have some good ideas to share. I’m excited to see which of our suggestions will actually be carried out next year.”

Ms. Aimee Apolinario, HS Assistant Principal for Academicsa snd Likas Gilas Committee Chairperson announced the winners during the general assembly last December 4, 2006.  Awarding the banners to the winning classes were Fr. Johnny Go, S.J., school director and Mrs. Jane Cacacho, HS Principal.

Architect Binggoy de Ocampo, who has been overseeing recent school renovations, headed the panel of judges consisting of several members of the high school faculty and staff.
