ATHLETICS
The Milo SBP(Small Basketeers of the Philippines) and Passarelle Basketball Tournament kicked off last July 9 at the Fr. Rafael Cortina Sports Center with a parade of teams and an opening program. The special guest was Paolo Mendoza, a professional basketball player with the Sta. Lucia Realtors, who played in the same tournament back when he was in grade school and high school. Games begun right after the opening ceremony, and the Xavier SBP team was pitted against St. Mary’s College.
Our SBP team blazed to a strong start when it defeated St. Mary’s College by 14 points. The Passarelle team will start its campaign on July 16 when it faces School of St. Anthony. The Xavier SBP team belongs to Group B of a four-group strong tournament along with St. Mary’s College, La Salle – Antipolo, Marist School and Notre Dame of Greater Manila. While our Passarelle team is grouped with La Salle – Antipolo, School of St. Anthony and La Salle – Greenhills in Group A. Both Xavier teams will play a single round robin and the top 2 teams of each group will advance to the quarter-final round. The other groups in the SBP tournament are:
