Fruitful Summer for Xavier Grade School Tennis Players

              Over the summer, two of our Grade School tennis players kept themselves busy training and competing in some tournaments. Their dedication to their sport allowed them to make a mark in the Metro Manila and Philippine Junior tennis scene.

              Joel Francis Atienza of Grade 2-E participated in the Gunn’s Cup Junior Tennis Tournament held last May 20 - June 4 at the Valle Verde Country Club in Pasig City. Joel placed second in the 10-and-under Unisex Division. This is a great feat for this eight-year-old who played against boys as much as two years older than him.

              Jose Lorenzo Ferrer of Grade 7-G competed in three tournaments last summer and won championships in all three. Entered in the 14-and-under Division, Jolo dominated the 2006 Juntaphil Cup in Baguio City last April 18 to 23, winning plums in both Singles and Doubles. A few days later, Jolo emerged as the Singles champion in the 5th Toby’s Age Group Tennis Tournament held from April 25 to 30 at the Metro Club in Makati. He then traveled to San Pablo City in Laguna to play in the  4th Philippine Tennis Association(PHILTA) Classic which was held from May 1 – 4 where he again captured the Singles crown.
