Markwin: Proud to be a Xaverian

At the recently-concluded 42nd Qubica-AMF Bowling World Cup held in Caracas, Venezuela, SEA Games Gold Medalist Markwin Tee (XS ’02) made a good account of not only Xavier School, but also the country as he placed 9 th overall in the annual world championship. Tee bucked the poorly organized schedule of the tournament and the dangerous security issues of Caracas to come within one place shy of the round of 8 quarterfinals.

In the elimination round, Tee was not affected by schedules that called for 6 AM bus rides with armed guards and loads of security checks at the bowling center, as he bowled a 24-game series of 5291 (220 pins average), placing 11 th overall and easily qualifying to the round of 24. In the round of 24, the former Xavier Bowling Team Captain battled back from a 185 first game, which dropped him to 14th, rolling games of 236, 235, 277, and 247 to finish with a an 8-game series of 1843 (230 pins average). It was the session’s fifth highest series, but since scores from previous rounds were carried over, he placed 9th, a spot away from the coveted top 8.

Overall, it was a great showing for Tee, as it was his first time to compete in the World Cup and he ended up as Asia ’s second highest-placed bowler. Markwin, who was supported by Tee’s Charitable Association and Red Bull, was accompanied and coached by his brother, Xavier Bowling Team Coach Sharwin Tee.

Now back in the country, Markwin is focused on training for the Doha Asian Games as he eagerly awaits his next chance to once again play in the World Cup.
