After a respectable Pool B finish in the 2006 Habagat League, the Xavier Ultimate (XU) team will try its luck in the upcoming Manila Spirits 2006 at the Alabang Country Club football field on November 25 and 26.
Aside from its usual players from Xavier and ICA, the team welcomes its new players from Poveda who have recently begun training with the team.
Composed almost exclusively of high school students from Xavier, ICA and Poveda, XU promises adrenaline-pumping disc action that only unbridled youthful exuberance can provide. They have proven time and again that despite their lack of experience, they will fight tooth-and-nail with the most intimidating veterans or the most grizzled expats in every game.
The team is set to play against 13 other local teams plus teams from Singapore, Hong Kong, Saipan, Shanghai, Taiwan, and Vietnam.
Coach Simon Mendoza (HS Social Science) says that merely joining Manila Spirits 2006 will provide the team with the experience that can help boost the level of its game. He adds that the team will definitely learn much from playing against some of the best teams in the Philippines and Asia.
Nevertheless, despite being neophytes on the field, the team is out to play it best in order to grab a win or two.
Go XU! Luceat Lux!
