Xavier School will bless and inaugurate the hardwood court of the newly opened Fr. Rafael Cortina Sports Center with the All-Stars for Xavier exhibition match on October 21, 2006 (Sat.) at 4:30 PM, featuring alumni varsity players against the San Miguel All-Stars team.

     Suiting up for the Xavier team are some of the school’s all-time basketball stars from the 90s and the present decade, including current UAAP hotshot and Ateneo stalwart Christopher Tiu (’03) and “Rookie of the Year” Woodward Co (’06) of the UP Maroons.  The team, managed by Benedict Chua, will be coached by Caesar Wongchuking (’82) and assisted by Joseph Whang (’74) and Lito Vergara, with Arturo Dy (’75) tapped as consultant.

     The San Miguel all stars will be bannered by PBA legends like Ato Agustin, Allan Caidic, Pido Jarencio and  Chito Loyzaga and coached by Cris Calilan.  The exhibition match was organized with special assistance from  Coach Eric Altamirano and through the support of major sponsors Accel, Proline, Amalgamated Project Management Services, Archipelago Builders and Architect Jonathan Gan.

     The All-Stars For Xavier inaugural game is part of the school’s ongoing celebration of the Golden Jubilee.  The entire Xavier Community is invited to watch this once-in-a-lifetime event.  Tickets are free and available at the Golden Jubilee Office and the Alumni Office on a “first-come, first-served” basis. 

     The show court, named in honor of the late Mr. Jacinto Tiu, is a world-class competition court with the Connor Neoshok hard maple flooring system, floor-mounted tempered glass Schelde backboards and a stadium setting that can seat over 1,200 people.  For inquiries about the facility, please call the Accounting Office at 723-0481 loc 387.
