HIGHLIGHTS

Mooncake Anyone?

Jennifer Ngo Say, Nursery and Prep Chinese teacher

Posted Saturday, 21-Oct-2006 9:32 AM

The Early Education Department had a very simple celebration of the “Mid-Autumn Festival” last October 6. The Chinese teachers took charge of telling the story about this special day. They told the story of the 3 myths about the August Moon, namely; the strong man, the beautiful lady and the rabbit. The boys were fascinated by the pictures which were shown.

The Prep Boys learned about the love story of “Houyi and Chang eh,” which  was narrated using a PowerPoint presentation to make the activity more enjoyable. After the storytelling activities, the boys feasted on some hopia and mooncake which they brought to share during merienda time. The EED boys were so excited to have a taste of this famous Chinese delicacy. They were even happy to share them with their teachers and other school personnel.

As a preparation for this celebration, the boys were asked to color pictures of the rabbit and Chang eh which were used to decorate the corridors along the classrooms.  The different activities provided a very good learning experience for the young boys by  enriching their knowledge about Chinese culture, the value of simplicity and sharing.
