Last October 12, 2006, Neell Young (H3A) and Kurt Tan Yu (H3C) formally received their ASEAN Scholarship grants in a simple ceremony held at the Singapore Embassy, Manila.

Along with four other scholars from different schools in the Philippines, the two Xavier students attended a briefing just before the ceremony.

Mrs. Jane Cacacho, HS Principal and Ms. Aimee Apolinario, Assistant Principal for Academics attended the occasion.

“The ASEAN Scholarships aim to provide opportunities to the young people of ASEAN to develop their potential and equip them with skills that will enable then to confidently step into the new millennium,” the ASEAN webpage says.

Mr. Desmond Ng, Deputy Chief of Missions for Singapore, formally awarded the scholarships to the six deserving students. Gracing the occasion was Mr. Charles Jose, DFA Executive Director and Mr. Raymond Chow, First Secretary of the Singapore Embassy. The Department of Education was represented by Dr. Vilma Labrador, Assistant Secretary.

Kurt and Neell will join other scholars from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao P.D.R., Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam.
