  XAVERIAN'S CORNER

Dance X Grooves to Skechers Dance Contest Finals
Kevin Chan, Dance X Captain

Last October 13, 2006, Dance X participated in the Skechers Streetdance Battle held at SM Southmall. Being a sequel to a similar competition held last year, the Skechers Streetdance Battle involved many other dance troupes from other High Schools and Colleges.

With the eliminations about to start, the sixteen Xaverians who represented the school had mixed of emotions of restlessness, fear and angst. They knew well that after weeks of austere training, there was nothing left to do, but to execute their routine to complement the rigorous training.

Just before going on stage, the members of Dance X, as always before every ance, asked the Lord for guidance in their dance. They then went up on stage wanting to show the world their love for dance. They gave their best shot and ed their five minute routine with much energy and zest.

As they watched other troupes perform, their blended emotions only intensified ten-fold. The last troupe finished their routine and by then, the boys were even more anxious to know the results.

As the judges were about to announce the teams that qualified for the finals, silence dominated the venue which added to the overall suspense of the surroundings. With their hands clasped together and their sweat dripping, they huddled in prayer in their seats. Finally, after much wait, the host shouted with enthusiasm, “And the first group that is given a spot in the Skechers Finals is Xavier School !” They then screamed with bliss as they roared up the stage to claim their victory.

Aside from attaining a spot in the Final Battle, Dance X also got other awards. These awards included the Skechers Freestyle Awards and the Skechers Style Awards. The victory, along with these awards, proved that Xaverians truly have a place in the realm of dancing and are growing into virtuosos of the art.

This will be the second time that the Xavier Dance X will be competing in the final eliminations of this competition.

The whole Xavier community is invited to come and support Dance X in the Final Battle to be held on December 2, 2006 at the Araneta Coliseum. May Dance X continue to let its light shine giving glory to God through the art of dancing.
