XAVERIAN'S CORNER

My Backyard Camp Adventure
Jose Lorenzo T. Choo (G4I)

It all started when I joined the Scouting Club.  Mr. Felix Pangan, (our moderator) told us about the overnight backyard camp on September 1-2.  I was so excited that I hoped my parents would let me join the camp and investiture. I tried to be good the whole week and surprisingly, they let me join. They helped me pack my things like my toothbrush, my sleeping bag, my flashlight and others. During the camp, we had some activities like cooking, team building games and bonfire. We also chopped wood for cooking, prepared the ingredients for dinner and washed dishes. My favorite activity was pitching our tent. I got a wound on my finger while pounding the peg with a rock, but it was worth it.

We slept in tents, but story telling and eating together kept us awake the whole night.  When we woke up in the morning, we did some exercises to wake us up and be prepared for the activities for the day. We cooked and ate breakfast, then we had games like the human knot and the centipede race. We were so tired but we learned how to work together as a team. We had our investiture in the afternoon, where our parents put on our green neckerchiefs. We received our school patch and Boy Scout pin as well.  I felt so proud wearing my neckerchief with the Boy Scout pin!

During the camp I learned how to prepare my own food, wash dishes, and be a good follower and how to work well with others.     I made new friends with the senior scouts and other junior scouts also. I am looking forward to joining more camps, but this time outside of Xavier School.
