HIGHLIGHTS Improving Assessments Ms. Aimee Apolinario, HS Web Editor Posted Wednesday, 20-Sep-2006 8:16 AM
Grade 7 to High4 classes were called off last Monday, September 18, 2006, to give way to a faculty and staff development activity.
The seminar-workshop which aimed to provide input on evaluating and improving assessments was conducted at the High School Multi-Purpose Hall from 8:00 AM – 3:45 PM.
Fr. Johnny Go, S.J. facilitated the morning session while the workshop in the afternoon was facilitated by Mrs. Jane Cacacho, HS Principal, Ms. Flora Alfonso, GS Reading and Language Chairperson, and Ms. Aimee Apolinario, HS Assistant Principal for Academics.
In his talk, Fr. Go stressed the importance of validity and authenticity in the assessment tools. Moreover, definition of alternative, authentic, traditional and valid assessments were clarified in the morning session.
Meanwhile, the HS MLAs spent the morning in a meeting with their assistant principal for academics. On the other hand, the GS MLAs had their meeting in the afternoon.
The Grade 7 and the High School teachers busied themselves in the afternoon evaluating their own projects and later on evaluating and constructively critiquing other departments’ projects.
The day turned out as a fruitful one. In closing, Fr. Go acknowledged that the professional learning communities the participants themselves have successfully built during the day. It is hoped that the dialogue between and among departments, even units, may continue for the improvement of assessments in the school.
