EDSOR Peace Conference 2007

This year’s EDSOR Peace Conference held at St. Pedro Poveda College was entitled, “Heroic Leaders in Action.” It was a sequel to last year’s conference, “Heroic Citizenship” which Xavier School hosted. The difference with this year’s conference is that it emphasizes the fact that the participants are student leaders and are encouraged to take action on the different situations which they encounter in their own schools like cheating.  At the same time, student leaders are made aware of social problems facing our country, like poverty.  Exposure to local and national issues will prepare student leaders to face the future.

The day started with the registration of the participants from the 4 EDSOR Consortium schools, namely:  Xavier School, Immaculate Conception Academy, La Salle Greenhills and Saint Pedro Poveda College. After which, the participants gathered for the introductory ceremonies with their tribe mates. It started with a short prayer and the presentation of colors. Each school had its respective flag brought up to the stage by different representatives. Then, the passing of the EDSOR flag from Xavier to Poveda took place. The students then got to know each other by tribes to strengthen the spirit of each tribe. Each tribe had a primer on human dignity as the basis of thought and action. After lunch, all the participants proceeded to the AVR room for the viewing of the movie entitled, “Idol: Pag-asa ng Bayan”. The different tribes then discussed the different messages that the film showed.  The first day ended with a paraliturgy.

The second day focused more on what we can do as students to help our respective schools, as well as our country. There were stories of heroic leadership narrated by some of the people who want to try to change the world in their own way. After this, there was the usual group sharing about the different talks. Then, there was a recap and the Eucharistic celebration. After the mass, it was time to say good bye to our new friends.

The EDSOR Peace Conference taught us that as student leaders, we must try to take action about the different issues in our schools in our own little way. I’ve learned that we must try to change who we are before actually changing others. It is time for us to try and make a difference and take action. Make a stand and stand out!
