My First Father and Son Camp

Matthew Vincent Bantoto Po, (G3-E), Bughawan Team

It is January 26 and I went to school with my stuff.  I was so excited about the Father and Son Camp that I couldn’t sleep the night before. I was looking forward to the 3 days and 2 nights but what I was excited more was spending time with my Dad and him meeting my friends and their Dads. I was looking forward to playing games and the maze together.

On the bus I felt so happy that finally I am going to the camp. But when I got there, I was shocked that the other people were already done pitching their tents and have finished packing. That night I couldn’t sleep yet so I went to Pulahan and joined my friend’s party in the tent. We shared make believe and true stories and had fun.

The following morning when I took a bath, it was so COLD!!!!!!  I miss the hot water at home but still managed. I looked forward to the activities for the day. I was so scared about the ropes course but Dad was there to help me so I survived. I can’t believe I was able to do it. Lower V was one of the scariest activities of all because my Dad and I have to hold tight for if one falls off, the other follows. I knew that Dad will never let go and we were able to reach 20 points.

In the retrieval, Dad thought of using the tape to put the ends of the stick together. The other teams made a hook out of the paper and tried to scoop the egg into the stick but failed while some survived. Dad and I just stuck the egg to the tape and moved gently to the other side but the egg would not get off. That was really funny but smart!!! My teammates helped us with their sticks. And that was how our team, Bughawan got the first prize.

On the last night, we all went to a campfire but I was in sandals and there were so many ants and big ones too!!! So, Dad and I just sat on a table and watched the fire. It looked nice and we didn’t want to miss it so we changed to shoes so we can get closer to the fire. Doing the “achuchicha” was so much fun and we had a great time laughing.

The teachers said this is the most orderly Father and Son  Camp ever in history. And I am proud to be in it!  I wish all the Grade 2 students would attend this so that they will have a great time with their dads. If you didn’t join, you surely missed a lot!!!
