Institutional Planning Workshop 2007

The 2007 Institutional Planning Workshop was held at the Meralco Management & Leadership Development Center (MMLDC) in Antipolo last January 18-20, 2007. Administrators from the Grade School, High School, Chinese & Central Administration spent two and a half days looking into the future of Xavier School as well as how to keep it sharp and relevant in our ever-changing world.

The first day saw us go through an environmental scan & a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities & threats) analysis. The administrators watched a video of NY Times writer and three-time Pulitzer Prize winner, Thomas Friedman, presenting the core thesis of his bestseller "The World is Flat" to MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) students. Thereafter, we reflected about how Xavier School should prepare its students to equip them with the appropriate skills and values to face the "flat" new world. The video provided the participants with the backdrop to look at the opportunities & threats in the environment as well as match them with the strengths & weaknesses of our beloved institution.

The above sessions laid the foundation for the remainder of the workshop. The next day, the administrators synthesized the information generated to come up with the key priorities the school should focus on over the next three school years to enable Xavier to keep its edge as one of the leading learning institutions in the country. Furthermore, pending projects were also evaluated from the standpoint of success, status and relevance. Over the next month, the priorities generated will be rolled-out to several task forces/working committees whose job is to "operationalize" them.

All in all, its was a very hectic but fruitful workshop. During the 2007 IPW, I saw first-hand every administrator's personal commitment to give his/her best to ensure the future success of Xavier School. Especially on this the year of our Golden Jubilee, I must admit that I am extremely proud to be part of this great institution. Luceat Lux!
