HIGHLIGHTS
The HS Science Department in cooperation with the Xientia Club organized this year’s Science Week held from February 19 – 23, 2007.
Students participated in various activities that were also considered as their Lab Post test for the fourth quarter.
Like in the previous year, a week long Science exhibit was put for the community’s viewing. This exhibit was on display at the fourth floor of the High School building.
The H3 students held the Chem Magic contest where students used various chemical reactions to enhance a stage play. This contest was held last February 20, Tuesday.
Meanwhile, last February 22 and 23, the H2 students participated in the Biology activity called Body Works, where student groups from different sections personified the body systems through a play production.
Furthermore, the H4 students were pitted against each other in the annual Physics Olympics last February 22. This activity was composed of several activities that required them to exhibit their learning from their Physics classes. The H4 students will exhibit physics based concepts as they compete for the different categories: Mouse Trap Race, Catapult, Boat Race, and Big Ball Billiards.
A new addition to this year’s Science Week is Xavier’s first-ever SciCathlon ala Amazing Race. In this event, each Science class was represented by a student. The students were grouped in such a way that each will have a representative from every year level. The activity proved to be a test of knowledge and endurance as the groups ran all over the campus accomplishing the tasks in each station. This one of a kind competition was held last February 21, 2007. The winners were recognized during the final High School general assembly last March 6, 2007. Banners, cerificates, and trophies were awarded by the schol director Fr. Johnny Go, S.J., and Mrs. Jane Cacacho, HS Principal.
With the success of this year’s Science Week, everyone can look forward to another exciting fun-filled learning experience next year. Luceat Lux!
