3G’s aGuinaldo Boys swept the recently concluded High 3 “Catcher in the Rye” Bandfest held at the High School Multi-purpose Hall (MPH) last January 24, 2007.

The annual bandfest is a culmination of the students’ lessons on J.D. Salinger’s popular novel, Catcher in the Rye . Students, divided into groups of five or six, were tasked to write an original song that reflects one of the themes from the novel. The class then picked the best song among those written by the members of the class and put together a class band to perform the chosen song at the bandfest.

3G students John Huang (lyricist), Raphael Ibaviosa (music writer, arranger and vocalist), Guido Marquez (arranger and guitarist), Gabriel Juanengco (arranger and bassist) and Ricky Mamonluk (drummer) joined efforts to take the Best Song, Best Performance and Best Presentation awards. Their song, Dear Pencey High School, reflects Holden Caulfield’s pessimism towards what he perceives as his school’s phoniness.

Meanwhile, 3D, with their song A Child’s Mind took home 2 nd Best Presentation honors while 3C with You Phonies grabbed 3 rd .

Judges for the contest were English teacher Mr. James Nicolay, Math teacher Mr. Andrew Pinlac, and Guitar Club moderator Mr. James Rivera.
