A Confirmation to Remember
Ms. Sarah Joy Ocampo, HSPO secretary

Posted Wednesday, 03-Aug-2005 9:32 AM

The day of my Confirmation seemed to be just a typical Saturday morning as I waited for the ceremony to begin, and I distinctly remember having mixed emotions. I felt happy because finally, I was about to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. At the same time, I felt scared knowing that I was the only woman and adult in the group of confirmands composed of Xavier sophomores. Nevertheless, in the midst of curious looks, I shifted my focus on the celebration itself and the fact that I was about to receive the sacrament.

Perhaps one will wonder how something as important as Confirmation could be missed and taken for granted. In my case, it was only last school year when I first found out from my parents that I was not yet confirmed. This realization came about as a surprise because when I was in high school, I remember asking my parents about it and they told me that I have been confirmed.

Thanks to Mrs. Elsa Santos, head of the HS CLE Department, I was given the opportunity to fulfill my duty as a member of the church. She asked me if I wanted to join the High two batch in its confirmation. Of course my answer was a resounding yes.

Being confirmed at my age was not at all a disadvantage. Many times in my adult life, I seem to have taken my faith for granted. However, this experience allowed me to reflect and discern. It opened venues for me to “repair” my relationship with the Lord.

From preparation time to confirmation day itself, my desire to become a committed Christian grew along with the anticipation of receiving the sacrament. I genuinely felt that the bond between me and my God became stronger and firmer.

Truly this experience has been one of my most memorable experiences in my four year stay here in Xavier School because it’s not everyday when students and staff experience together a journey in their faith.
