ALUMNI

AAXS Global: Dateline Taiwan

Posted Thursday, 01-Dec-2005 10:34 AM

On 19 November, Fr. Johnny Go flew to Taipei to meet with the alumni residing in Taiwan. The meeting was held at the Holy Family Church, a Jesuit parish in Taipei. Florence Chuang, a Xavier School teacher for many years, was there to help Ruel Leuterio (`77) organize the simple affair. Some of the alumni made the effort to commute all the way from the south, like Tomas Uy (`73) and Francisco Lim, Jr. (`75), who was accompanied by his wife Cynthia. Also in attendance were: Diosdado Co Ting Keh (`75), Peterson Sia (`85), Christopher Lao (`94), Willy Go Tiong, Jr. (’77), whose wife was celebrating her birthday that day, and Fr. Derrick Barria (`95), an Opus Dei priest who had just been assigned in Taipei two months before.

The affair began with a Eucharistic Celebration on the Solemnity of Christ the King, presided by Fr. Go and concelebrated by Fr. Barria. In the homily, Fr. Go spoke about Paul Hsu Kuang-chi (Xu Guangqi) and how this prominent 16 th -century Catholic Chinese leader can serve as an example and inspiration to every Xaverian.

Dinner followed the Eucharist, during which Fr. Go updated the alumni about the latest developments in Xavier School , and Hero Yu (`72), Chair of the Golden Jubilee Committee, presented the different Golden Jubilee programs and activities calendared for next year. After a lively discussion, some Jubilee giveaways were raffled off, to the delight of the alumni. As per the practice in previous AAXS Global-related trips, Fr. Go and Hero Yu handed the banner for the Taiwan Chapter of the AAXS to those present.
