HIGHLIGHTS

Prep Mini-Olympics 2005
Miss Jaymee Ng, Prep 4 Class Adviser

Fitness and fun marked Xavier School ’s own version of the recently concluded SEA Games, the Prep Mini-Olympics. The cloudy day was brightened by the Prep AM and PM boys, garbed in their bright yellow P.E. uniforms, all raring to go and engage in some friendly athletic competition. As with its namesake, the Prep Mini-Olympics was formally opened with the lighting of the torch, which was led by Jeff Tan from Prep E and Gabriel Romualdez from Prep 1. To begin the program, Mr. Jason Dy, father of Troy Justin Dy (Prep 1), graciously led the boys in their opening prayer and the Oath of Sportsmanship.

With the formalities over, the Mini-Olympics went into full swing. The boys were treated to a soccer demonstration by their own peers, who won third place in the Pepsi Cup this school year. Coached by Mr. Rey Ritaga, the soccer team including: Gabriel Agustin Romualdez, John Vincent Amador, Katipunan Ryan delos Reyes (Prep 1); Clarence Thomas Limchiko (Prep 2); Jared Maverick Yu (Prep 3); Jose Mari King (Prep 4); Enrico Coseteng (Prep 5); Justin William Yu (Prep B); Christian Lorenzo Mathay (Prep C); Jose Arturo Poe , Adrian Ronald Dychiao (Prep E); and Redwin Monteverde (Prep F), showcased their pre-game routines and skills in footwork and ball-handling. Their classmates and friends in the audience roared with enthusiastic cheers all throughout the presentation.

Of course, the showcase of skills did not stop with the soccer team. Each class also prepared a dance cheer to further heighten the excitement in the event. The Amazing Alligators (Prep A/1) danced to the tune of “Red Alert”; the Brave Bears (Prep B/2) moved their limbs to “Hot! Hot! Hot!”; the Cool Cats (Prep C/3) strutted their stuff to “Gasolina”; the Daring Dragons (Prep D/4) dipped and danced to “Kung Fu Fighting” ; the Electrifying Eagles (Prep E/5) bopped their way through “Bop It!”; and the Fantastic Foxes (Prep F/6) shook their bodies to “Rock Your Body”.

Let the games begin! Three games were prepared for the boys. The first game, called Share a Ball was followed by the second game, Together in a Garter. And of course, what sporting event would be complete without an Obstacle Course . Each pair of boys had to put straws into bottles, go through a hula hoop, and carefully walk their way on a balance beam. All the teams got medals for their effort and their sportsmanship.

At the end of the day, some teams won and some teams lost, that is the reality of any sporting event. But equally real is the spirit of friendship and camaraderie that quickly grew among the Prep boys. The Mini-Olympics was a success in strengthening both the body and the spirit.
