MAGIS

One Christmas Parol
Mr. Lorenzo Fuentes, GS Music, Arts and Computer Education Department Chairperson

Posted Thursday, 02-Dec-2005 1:14 PM

A week before the semestral break, Mr. Isorena, the Grades 3 and 4 Art teacher, gave a special assignment to his students. The special project had to be submitted on or before the 15th of November. It could be done with the help of any household member.

The project? One Christmas Parol (lantern).

The main objective of this special take-home project was to encourage the interaction of household members in one common activity that promoted bonding. The lantern had to be at least one foot in diameter to a maximum of two feet. Also, it must be made of any recycled material.

When the deadline came, you would not believe how much creativity was put into producing the lanterns that were submitted. A student related how much fun he had with his Mom and Dad while making the project. Others had similar positive experiences. Looking at the succeeding photographs somehow can give you an idea of how much effort was put into making the lanterns and at the same time providing families with the opportunity to spend quality time together!
