The Energy Conservation Challenge

      As announced during our General Assembly last November 17, we will appreciate everyone’s assistance and cooperation in conserving the use of electricity in Xavier School . Excluding Manpower and Agency expenses, electricity is Xavier’s single largest expense item. This school year, Xavier School is projected to spend over P18M for electricity alone. This amount is expected to further increase with the recent approval of EVAT.

      Allow me to present to you our Energy Conservation Challenge for the entire Xavier community. Over the past twelve months ( Nov. 16, 2004 to Nov. 15, 2005 ), Xavier School consumed 2,007,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity amounting to P16.7M at an average of P8.32/kwh. Let us together aim to save 6% or 120,000 kilowatt-hours in the coming 12 months. Achieving this will certainly help us cushion the impact of the rate increase due to EVAT which is effective Meralco’s billing for December 2005. I estimate this savings to be approximately P1M (120,000 kwh x P9).

      As our valued partners in mission, we trust you will do your share to help the School in saving our resources for the benefit of the larger community. We assure you that your individual effort, no matter how small, is appreciated and will make a difference. Let me reiterate, however, that our efforts to conserve electricity should never be at the expense of a conducive learning/working environment.
