ATHLETICS
The Xavier Faculty and Staff women's volleyball team bagged another victory in the elimination round of the Faculty and Staff Athletics Association of Private Schools (FASAAPS) volleyball tournament last October 12, 2005. The Xavier ladies routed their opponents from Don Bosco Mandaluyong in two straight sets in the match that took place at the Xavier School High School Gym.
The game started sluggishly as the Xavier diggers struggled
with their reception. It seemed that neither team would be able to stage
a strong rally until Coach Mark Yap (HS Math), called a time out. Knowing
how strong the defense of the other team is, Coach Mark reminded his starting
six to be alert and to keep their eyes on the ball and their minds in
the game. Thus, Wanting to win the next set, the ladies decided to play it up a little bit. Good serves, excellent tosses, calculated drops, and sharp spikes were the things that took these ladies to walk away again with victory. The second and final set of this game was finished with a 25-18 count. As Coach Mark said, this was again a good win. Thanks to the extra effort of Ms. Retsel Sanggalang (Testing and Research Center ) and Ms. Jan Natonton (HS Social Science), who were named as player of the game and server of the game, respectively, by the team’s coach. With a record of four wins and a loss, the team is certainly in strong contention for the title this year. Keep up the winning streak, ladies! Whattagish!!!
