Beatle's Birthday Bash for Mr. Tiu
Ms. Rachelle de Vera, Registrar's Office Staff

Posted Friday, 14-Oct-2005 4:43 PM

A Sunday birthday passed and Monday came, and Mr. Frederick Tiu, our dear School Treasurer, was customarily going through his workday without any inkling of what was about to happen that afternoon.

In the other offices, you will see Central Administration TLAs, MLAs and Administrative Staff busily yet discretely preparing for a surprise birthday program. Some were preparing the venue, others were practicing their grooves and many were rehearsing their surprise numbers.

Our main man, of course, should not be allowed to witness any of this. So as not to catch what was under his nose, Fr. Johnny Go rode along with the plan, calling Mr. Tiu for a “meeting.”

By 3:30 in the afternoon, the Boardroom was filled with people, all excited and restless. Even Fr. Ismael Zuluoga, S.J. was there to celebrate with us! When the door opened, surprise, surprise!  Everyone sang Happy Birthday and Mr. Tiu, awed, smiled and nodded his head in grateful recognition.

The celebration started with some trivia about the celebrant. See if you can answer them:

      1. What does Mr Tiu’s middle initial “N” stand for?

      2. When is his exact birthday?

      3. How many children does Mr. Tiu have and what are their names?

Want another trivia? What is Mr. Tiu’s favorite singing group?

Looking at the line up of surprise numbers will reveal the answer to this final question!

The Finance, Alumni Relations and the Sports Center Offices sang Let It Be , Personnel jammed to the tune of All My Loving , Security chorused Yellow Submarine , the Registrar’s Office jived She Loves You , the Information Technology Services, Campus Development and Physical Plant Offices crooned In My Life and the Testing and Research Center danced to A Hard Day’s Night using the famous Pinoy Big Brother steps. What other group performed those famous songs, but The Beatles!

After all the laughs and cheers brought by these surprise numbers, Fr. Go said that if his birthday is celebrated on Director’s Day, this would certainly count as T-day or Treasurer’s Day.

Putting a close to this merriment, the celebrant thanked everyone and showed much appreciation for this great effort and jokingly quipped that he thought this kind of celebration was reserved only for Jesuits or retirees.

Definitely another bookmarked event in Mr. Tiu’s life, this Beatle's birthday bash will truly be remembered, not only by our celebrant, but by his Xavier family as well.

      Happy Birthday, Mr. Frederick Tiu!
