Coach Albert Hao knew that October will open with a crucial match against Colegio de San Agustin (CSA) in the semi-final knockout round of the Inter-Scholastic Sports Association (ISSA) Volleyball Tournament.

Last October 1st , the Xavier varsity volleyball team faced their rivals from CSA at the Xavier HS gym. As early as 8:30 AM , players could be seen stretching and warming up for the game. Meanwhile, coaches from both teams were giving others some pointers.

The first set seemed to be a close match but as it progressed Xavier managed to pull away a bit eventually won it.

In the second set, it was apparent that both teams exerted more effort, but it was still Xavier that prevailed.

Coming into the third set, Xavier could have confidently walked in but they exhibited the same power in the first and second sets of the game. However, CSA refused to give up that easily. Despite lagging behind at 22-17, the CSA spikers capitalized on the poor reception of Xavier and they managed to get as close as 20-22. However, with an astounding kill from Xavier, that rally was put to a halt. Nevertheless, CSA held on to the game and sustained until the score was 22-24. Fortunately for Xavier, a service error occurred from the side of CSA giving Xavier the set and the match.

Although the victory sustained their top position in the tournament, Coach Albert wasn’t too happy with how the game ended. He said that he was a bit disappointed that the team had to wait for the opponent to commit an error before they could win.

Obviously, the Xavier spikers know which aspect to improve on for their next game. At present, the team awaits the winner in the match between International School and Faith Academy to know which of these two will be the foe to beat in the finals round.
