Male Spikers Clinch First Win!

      Intense practice sessions finally paid off for the Xavier male faculty and staff volleyball team as it emerged victorious in its third game in the 2005-2006 edition of the Faculty and Staff Athletics Association of Private Schools (FASAAPS) volleyball tournament. The victory against the Claret team, which concluded with a score of 25-20 in the third and deciding set, was held last October 5 at the Don Bosco, Makati gymnasium.

      The nail-biter of a game featured the Xavier team holding its nerve to come back from a 14-18 deficit in the final set. Earlier, in the first set, both the Xavier and Claret teams made various errors but had Claret winning 25-20. Xavier then played much better in the second set to take it convincingly, but Xavier’s errors came back in the beginning of the third set, which placed them at a disadvantage before the team came back strongly to win in the end.

      “I’m proud that we showed enough heart to come back from behind,” beamed Bro. Aldrie Lim, one of the team’s consistent spikers. “Hopefully, this is only the first of several more victories.”

      With the victory, the Xavier team kept alive its chances of claiming the top spot in the triple round-robin format of the tournament.
