HIGHLIGHTS

Xavier Once Again Bowls for Charity

The Xavier Bowling Varsity Team in cooperation with the HS FACAMPA and the HS Student Council organized the 3rd Xavier Charity Bowl last January 27, 2006 at the E-Lanes Bowling Center.

This yearly event which aims to help raise funds for the Xavier School Educational and Trust Fund, was fortunately graced by SEA games gold medalist and former team captain, Marwin Tee (XS ’01).

Aside from being a fund raiser, this one-day tournament strives to provide a venue for members of the Xavier community and their friends to get together and have fun for a worthy cause. Furthermore, this serves as a venue for bowling varsity members to render service to those who cannot afford a Xavier education.

The Charity Bowl started at 5:30PM with bowling varsity member, Kurt Yu (H1D) leading with the National Anthem. This was immediately followed by the opening prayer led by Xavier Bowling Varsity Team Captain Timothy Ocampo-Tan (H4B). After the short welcoming speech by Mr. Sharwin Tee, head coach of the bowling team, the ceremonial roll was carried out by the HS FACAMPA President, Mr. Jonathan Lacson and Mr. Markwin Tee.

A 10-minute shadow bowling right before the tournament proper was given to the participants to warm up and get used to their lanes. Following this was the non-stop scorching of lanes and crashing of pins.

During the course of the game, special prizes were given to bowlers who hit a “turkey,” three strikes in a row. Moreover, teams who get a star frame (all three members strike in the same frame) were awarded prizes. Infocom Warpspeed Internet Cards, Xavier pins and other gifts were given away.

At the end of the evening, Bedrock Boyz , composed of Timothy Ocampo-Tan (H4B), Mr. Florencio Sebastian III (XS’89) and Adrian Santos (H4B) dominated the event and reclaimed the title they first bagged in 2004 during the very first Charity Bowl.

Ms. Aimee Apolinario, assistant bowling coach, said that she is overwhelmed by the support given by the community for this year’s Charity Bowl. She also added that this year’s event has been the most attended in the three years of Charity Bowling.

Although not everyone went home with a medal or a prize, the fact that all the participants had fun and contributed to the school’s educational trust fund make the 3rd Charity Bowl another success.

The organizers wish to thank their sponsors: CitisecOnline.com Stockbrokers, Prudential Guarantee, Carl Brothers Realty, Infocom Technologies, Blue Rock Aggregates, Nakia Clothing Studio, Mr. and Mrs. Jose Potian, Mr. and Mrs. Miguel Olivan, Dr. and Mrs. Mark Richard Kho.
