Bowlers Stamp Their Class in Team Event
Ms. Aimee Apolinario, Bowling Coach

Posted Wednesday, 01-Mar-2006 1:36 PM

Seemingly inspired by the words of six-time world bowling champion Paeng Nepomuceno, Xavier School Team Gold and Team Blue got off to a great start in the 1st Philippine National Schools Bowling Championships by taking 1st and 3rd places in the team of four event last February 17, 2006.

After the inspirational speech by Paeng, the bowlers took to the lanes and bowled a total of six games. Team Gold, composed of team captain Timothy Ocampo-Tan of H4B, Edmund Lee of H4D, Carl Lim of H1C, and J. Em Ang of H3D, bucked a poor first game to come roaring back. The team bowled a total of 4529 pins (188 pins average), over 130 pins more than its closest rival, St. Peter the Apostle School , who only managed 4398 pins (183 pins average). Meanwhile, Team Blue also made a good account of themselves, overcoming a spirited challenge by Ateneo High School to take third place. The team was composed of newcomers Kurt Yu of H1D, Erick Tomaliwan of H1D, Joseph Potian of H1E and Markyn Kho of Gr 6C.

Members of both teams will be awarded with individual gold and bronze medals while the team will also take home two trophies for the school.

With this great start, the team is pumped up for the doubles and singles events slated this weekend, February 25 and 26 at the Pearl Bowling Center in Paranaque. Expected to lead the charge in the doubles event will be the Senior duo of Ocampo-Tan and Lee and the duo of Ang and Lim.

Despite the growing confidence in themselves, the team recognizes their need for support from their schoolmates. Interested parties may watch and cheer for the bowlers live at the Pearl Bowling Center on Saturday at    3 P.M. and on Sunday at 2 P.M.
