The year of the Fire Dog was ushered in with a dragon dance performed by the second year high school students at the grade school quadrangle, on January 31. The Early Education Department (EED) boys then presented an exciting and colorful dance number to the delight of the entire grade school community and its guests on the opening day of the Chinese Lunar New Year celebration.
The parents had a good line up of activities for the Prep boys. Each section had parent volunteers, who were well prepared with complete materials to tell the boys about some of the customs and traditions practiced during the Lunar New Year celebration. Mrs. Judy Guevara, a Prep mother, came to share the fun of Chinese painting. The boys were keen on trying the Chinese brush and showed off their masterpieces. Master Richard Hao was invited for a Wushu exhibition in the EED gym. The prep boys were invited to participate, doing some basic Wushu steps. Mr. Jerri Chua conducted a very interesting demonstration on making hopia and sweet rice cake or tikoy. The boys were treated to a hopia and tikoy tasting sessions afterwards.
The teachers distributed red envelopes which the Prep boys had prepared, filled with chocolate coins to bring home for good luck. The teachers had also screened a Disney movie in Chinese for the boys to enjoy. The best works of the boys in the coloring and penmanship contests were displayed in the EED gym and awarded with certificates on the culminating day.
