With more than 3000 people in attendance, 7 professional bands, 6 VJs, unsigned bands, and dance troupes from 4 different schools, the recently concluded variety show, PanaXea, proved to be the most well attended and the best variety show in Xavier School history.

Last February 4, 2006 , the Xavier School Student Council with MTV Philippines as co-presentors produced the annual Xavier School Variety Show, dubbed PANAXEA: The Universal Cure.

Having a perfect mix of different kinds of entertainment made PanaXea a real variety show that generated more than one million pesos for Xavier’s Alay Kapwa Fund.

Incredible performances by the school’s Dance-X, the well-loved ICA Dance Troupe, the flashing Poveda Hardcourt Dancers and the cheerful Sayawata-Miriam Dance Troupe heated up the excitement of the audience.

Adding to the sweet smell of élan were the well-cheered bands of Hale, Bamboo, Orange and Lemons, Kjwan, Brownman Revival, Urbandub and Dicta License . The show would not be complete without the most-awaited fashion show, thanks to the support of Adidas and Folded & Hung.

“It was definitely a blast!” exclaimed both VJs Clair and John Joe . “The line-up was really great. It wasn’t all the same kind of music. The dancers were good. The fashion show was good. The VJ Hunt was astig !” she says.

MTV VJ Claire Olivar gives Xavier an “A+” in putting up an excellent variety show. “Good job! It was great. It was real fun,” she says. VJ John Joe adds in an interview with Stallion, “You guys met your goals. Great!”

In VJ John Joe’s words, “If it was a concert it bombed. But since it’s not a concert, it rocks! You guys got to accomplish that variety; the fashion, the dancing, the bands, everything else; it’s a genius.” He adds, “Even the screen thing, the texting, it was funny. It was really, really cool! I wish we have that in the [MTV] Summit.

Variety Show project head Howell Yao (H4G) describes the whole experience as, “ Just fantastic!” He adds, “Of course it was really, really difficult given the magnitude of an event like this, but we managed to pull it off! I would gladly do it again if given the chance.”

VJs Clair and John Joe describe the Xavier audience as “a little subdued and controlled. It was good. Every one was very game.” She adds, “ John Joe and I have been to the craziest of places so you know. It was great. And they were cheering ICA Dance Troupe ! You can really see where their loyalties lie (laughs).”

When asked how they prepared for hosting the Xavier crowd, VJ Claire says, “I woke-up, took a shower, and got dressed.” VJ John Joe on the other hand says, “I’ve been preparing for this since December of 2004, since I started (smiles).” He adds, “Our preparation is basically our training. The longer we stay VJs, the more we learn, the better we get. It really comes with experience. So this VJ hunt’s pretty cool!”

For Howell Yao and the Variety Show Committee , “ Working with MTV was a learning experience for all of us. It was like being trained by the best themselves. It gave us a glimpse of what it is like working in the real world.”
