  HIGHLIGHTS

Small Tourney, Big Winners
Mr. James Nicolay, Scrabble Club Moderator

Following their triumph in last year's series of Scrabble Tournament "Masters of the Word,” the Xavier School Scrabble Club representatives emerged victorious in the recently held Inter-School Scrabble Friendship Games last January 15 at Robinsons Place Pioneer, Mandaluyong City.

The Xavier Scrabble team was comprised of Charles Cue of H2C; Kevin See and Charleton Yu of H4C; Jesi Ling and Kyle Sy of H4E; and Jared Chua of H4I.

After three rounds of one-on-one battles with the other school teams, the Xavier Scrabble team proved to be just too strong and accumulated 13 wins out of a possible 15. The second placer Rosary Hills gathered 8 wins, while the third placer Grace Christian School earned only 6 wins.

With this victory, the Xavier word masters lived up to their status as the team to beat in the High School level. However, it is not yet time to celebrate big time. The triumph of the Xavier School representatives is, indeed, very much welcome; however, as the National Scrabble Association of the Philippines, Inc. (NASCAP) President Nene Lambino, upon handing the trophy to the winning Xavier team, declared that this event is just a warm-up tournament for a bigger event.

Before the end of the first quarter of 2006, the Xavier Scrabble Team should gear up for the 2nd Philippine Students' Scrabble Championship, where teams from all over the country will participate in the most exciting "word war" event of the year for all students nationwide.

With its winning streak, the neophyte Xavier Scrabble Club team seems to be in high spirits for this next event. Let us hope and pray that this impressive performance of the team will continue to shine in the upcoming tournament. Luceat Lux!
