The Holy Eucharist Comes Alive
Mr. Rey Aude and Ms. Tessie Ponteras, Grade 7 CLE Teachers

“TAKE and EAT, TAKE and DRINK.

DO THIS IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME.”

"Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread,

and when he had said the blessing he broke it

and gave it to the disciples.

'Take it and eat,' he said, 'this is my body.'

Then he took a cup, and when he had given

Thanks he handed it to them saying,

"Drink from this all of you, for this is my blood,

the blood of the covenant,

poured out for many for the forgiveness of

sins." Matthew 26: 26-28

The Church draws her life from CHRIST in the EUCHARIST; by him she is fed and by him she is enlightened. This reality does not simply express a daily experience of faith, but it summarizes the “heart of the mystery of the Church”. Every time we celebrate the Holy Eucharist, we as a Church experience constantly the fulfillment of Jesus’ promise “I am with you always, to the close of the age”. (Mt. 28:20) In the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, we are always before the mystery and the grandeur of the self-sacrificing love of Jesus Christ for each one of us. The Holy Eucharist builds community, it builds the Church. As we receive the Holy Eucharist, we are challenged to become Eucharistic people, meaning people who love, serve, forgive and live in peace with one another. We are called to become instruments of peace, unity and justice.

During the third quarter, as part of the CLE flexible curriculum, the grade seven students were helped to deepen their appreciation on the importance of the Holy Eucharist in their own personal pilgrimage of faith. After learning the truths of the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist, each class was made to prepare their own Class Mass, dividing the tedious tasks of preparing among themselves. They were the ones who prepared the entire text for their Eucharistic celebration with beautiful and meaningful extra liturgical components. It was moving seeing them exert all their best effort to be able to come up with a beautiful, solemn and meaningful liturgy. You see a group practicing their class for their songs; another group busy finalizing the extra liturgical component of their celebration; while another group is busy composing prayers to be used during the celebration. Some classes took the initiative of inviting their music teachers to accompany them in their singing and they also invited their teachers to be one with them in the celebration. Given the proper motivation, guidance, encouragement and opportunity our students can accomplish great tasks.

Amidst the difficulties and differences, the grade 7 students were able to experience concretely how it is to build a Church- a Community- by working together, respecting each others’ ideas, listening to one another, and giving his own little share/contribution for a meaningful Eucharistic Celebration. In the preparation of their Class Mass, the statement “There is unity in diversity” was concretized and experienced by each of the grade seven students.

Truly, when one moved by love extends his hand and does his own responsibility, great things are accomplished. In the Holy Eucharist, we are called to partake in the mission of Christ of building his Father’s Kingdom here on earth. In a way, the grade 7 students did their meager part when they gave themselves in the entire preparation of their Class Mass.
