Xavier Aspirants Beat St. Stephen’s for 4th Victory

     The Xavier Tiong Lian Aspirants team defeated St. Stephen’s High School, 64 - 54, to emerge as the only undefeated team in the Aspirants Division of the 30th Metro Manila Tiong Lian Basketball Association (MMTLBA).

     This game proved to be a preview of the possible championship match-up between the two top teams. St. Stephen’s never took the lead as Xavier took control from the start of the game. The lead continued to extend and even grew to as much as 20 points. Despite this, St. Stephen’s fought back and was able to reduce the difference to as much as 4 points as Xavier went beyond the foul limit early in the Third Quarter. With the momentum starting to shift, Xavier shot some baskets and was able to pull away and hold on to win their fourth straight game. Xavier will now face St. Jude, which they beat by a big margin in their first meeting, to start the second phase of the elimination round. This is not the end as both teams will face off once more in the second round.
