      Br. Andrew Gonzalez, FSC, President Emeritus of De La Salle University, joined our Creator on January 29, 2006.  His remains lie in state at the Chapel of the Most Blessed Sacrament (MBS), DLSU-Manila. Masses will be held at 7:00 p.m. daily from January 30 to February 1 at the MBS Chapel.  The Mass of the Resurrection is scheduled  on Thursday, 2 February 2006, 9:00 a.m. at the same chapel. Thereafter, his remains will be cremated and brought to the Brothers Mausoleum in Lipa, Batangas.

      Br. Andrew was President/System President from 1979 to 1991 and from 1994 to 1998. From 1998 to 2001 he served as Secretary of the Department of Education, Culture and Sports. Thereafter, from 2001-2003, he became DLSU-M Vice President for Academics and  Research, and  Presidential Adviser for Academics and Research from 2003 to 2005.

      During his tenure as President, De La Salle University underwent significant developments as an institution of higher learning, particularly in the areas of research and faculty and program development.  He was conferred the title of President Emeritus last September 28 in recognition of his invaluable contributions. Moreover, as a fitting gesture of appreciation of his initiatives as its prime builder, the University's General Education/College of Education/ and Asia Pacific Center for Teachers' Education (ACTED) has been named after him.

      Let us offer our prayers for the eternal repose of his soul and our heartfelt condolence to his bereaved family.
