Ignite Xavier! Our Golden Jubilee Begins
The Golden Jubilee kicks off on June 9 (Friday) with a multi-event celebration launching the year-long calendar of activities commemorating the school’s 50th anniversary. At 8:00 AM, the Fr. Rafael Cortina Sports Center will be blessed and inaugurated. The Grand Mass of the Holy Spirit immediately follows, officiated by the His Eminence, Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales, Archbishop of Manila. The Jesuit Provincial, XS alumnus Fr. Daniel Patrick Huang (`76) will preach at this special Eucharistic Celebration. A special feature in this part of the celebrations will be the processional of the relic of St. Francis Xavier, a gift from the Society of Jesus on the occasion of the school’s Jubilee (see related article). The rest of the The year-round Jubilee Calendar was painstakingly prepared with one major objective in mind, the renewal of the community in the spirit and ideals of Xavier School. Hence, a series of spiritual activities for both alumni and parents has been scheduled from July to January ’07. Jubilee Week The calendar reaches a high point in the Jubilee Week of November 25 – December 3. This period begins with the start of the nine-day Xavier Novena Masses sponsored by various batches and, in the evening, the Golden Jubilee Alumni Homecoming. The final novena Mass will be celebrated on the Feast of St. Francis Xavier, following the torch relay from Echague to Greenhills and the Jubilee Family Fun Run. The Jubilee Committee (Edward Lim ‘87) is coordinating with overseas alumni if this event could be linked up simultaneous with their respective reunions. The other major events are scheduled early next year. The Blessing of the Canlubang site for the Xavier II campus will be held on February. 16 and, on the same day, Xavier hosts an appreciation lunch for its many benefactors, partners and friends. The Jubilee Celebrations culminate on March 3 with the Exemplary Alumni Awards Gala Night honoring distinguished and honorable alumni who most embody the Xavier attributes of “men fully alive”. Other noteworthy projects already in the pipeline are the Jubilee Commemorative Book, a major outreach project in coordination with ICA and MTQ and the dedication of the Founders’ Garden. The school’s academic and extra-curricular programs for this school year have been aligned to focus on the Jubilee theme that calls on the community to “Ignite the Xavier Spirit!” Both the AAXS and XSPA have also planned their respective calendars to complement the school’s Jubilee objectives of thanksgiving, fellowship and, above all, renewal.
