GOLDEN JUBILEE UPDATES

NA RecolleXSion Set for July

Posted Tuesday, 20-Jun-2006 8:20 AM

All is set for a year-round series of recollections that will kick off in July for North American X-Pats.  Dubbed “RecolleXSion” (as suggested by the group from New York and wholeheartedly adopted), this important spiritual activity is one of the ways by which the Golden Jubilee Celebrations seeks to promote the “renewal of the Xavier Spirit” among the Xavier community.

Through the enthusiastic cooperation of overseas alumni coordinators, the schedule has been set:

Schedule:

July 15                     New York

Venue:          Loyola Retreat House (Morristown, NJ)

                                Preacher:      Fr. Johnny Go

                                Coordinator:   Raymond Chua ‘76

                                                    (ray@t-house.com), and others

                                Los Angeles

Venue: Mary & Joseph Retreat Center (Palos Verdes)

                                Preacher:  Fr. Ari Dy

                                Coordinator: Gerry Lim ’80

                                                   (mgglim@yahoo.com) and others

July 22                     Vancouver

                                Venue:         (TBD)

                                Preacher:     Fr. Johnny Go

                                Coordinator:  Richard Cheng ’73

                                                   (rgcheng5@yahoo.com)

                                                   Edward Chua ’68

                                                   (echua@telus.net) and others

July 23                     San Francisco

                                Venue:            Handlery Room, USF

                                Preacher:        Fr. Ari Dy

                                Coordinator:     Cleve Yu ’76 (cleveyu@yahoo.com)

The day-long spiritual program will have varying agenda tailor-fit to the specific needs of majority of the alumni in each city.  So far, the proposed program for LA appears to be the longest, starting with breakfast at 8:00 AM with the recollection ending with Confessions at 4 PM and the celebration of the Holy Mass at 6 PM and capped by a fellowship dinner.  The damage for this is US$40 but the organizing group vowed to sponsor any alumnus who may find the cost too difficult.

After each recollection, some time will be given at the end of the day to a presentation of the newly-ratified By-laws of the AAXS and the further steps needed to establish the overseas chapters.  Although primarily organized for Xavier alumni, RecolleXSion is also open to alumni wives, ICAns and former faculty and staff.

Meanwhile local recollections for alumni are scheduled in August, October, November and January, coordinated by Fred Tiu (’79) with a weekend retreat slated for October organized by Dobbin Tan (’81).  A series of workshops for Xavier parents is being planned by John Mariano Tan (’79) for three Saturdays in July, August and September.  Additional overseas RecolleXSion will be scheduled upon firm requests from alumni based in other cities.  Those interested are requested to contact the main coordinators or Ms. Bambi Chua at bambido@xs.edu.ph for further details.
