His Holiness, Benedict XVI, granted an Apostolic Blessing to the Director and the Xavier School Community: students and their parents, faculty and staff and the alumni, on the occasion of the school’s 50th year of foundation.  The blessing was issued May 24, 2006 and signed by Archishop Oscar Rizzato of the Vatican on behalf of the Pope.

According to the Catholic Encyclopedia, “an apostolic blessing is a sacramental with which is granted a plenary indulgence.”  It should be noted that “the possession of this is not the sole or immediate cause for gaining the indulgences attached thereto by the blessing of the Holy Father or his delegate.  But the possession enables the recipient (Xavier Community) to gain the various indulgences in the performance of certain good works or acts of piety.”

On this Jubilee Year, may the members of the Xavier Community actively work for the spiritual benefits of this apostolic blessing by living the Xavier Spirit more vigorously through thought, word and deed.
